STRESS!!

Well my first semester here at UOIT is coming to a SLOW end, and before this moment I never truly understood the meaning of STRESS, nor have I had a moment to actually think about it! In high school, assignments were handed out one at a time with no test on the same day. Once these first assignments were finished the next one followed with some relief time in between. Not only is this not the case with University but you are doing this all without the support of your friends, family, and the normal comforts of home. I thought I was ready for University not thinking about any of the things that I was going to face while attending school. To be honest I don’t think anyone can be fully prepared for University until an individual completes their first semester at University. This is how I feel at this time and I hope that I am truly prepared for the semesters ahead now that I have completed my first semester here at UOIT. I think I’m just ready for the Christmas holidays where I can be with my family and friends and not think about what I have to do later. I’m ready to relax!!

Why I'm Here

A nurse to me is an individual that is well-rounded, trust worthy, and inspirational. When I decided to become a nurse there was nothing in my life that had pointed me in this direction. As of yesterday I found out why I becoming a nurse. Unfortunately my dad has cancer; this situation has led me to believe that I am meant to be a nurse. I feel that it is my duty both as a daughter and a future nurse to put everything and anything that I know as both roles to help my dad through this difficult time. After helping my dad through this situation I think that I will have a different outlook on my patients then I would have without personally caring for someone that I truly love. My dad is one of the people that I am closest to in this world and as of yesterday he has all my wishes and my love to help him through this time that he WILL make it through with the help of his family. Love you dad <3!!>

Pay Tribute to Your Nurses

It’s easy to remember the people that care about you every day, whether it be family or friends, but it’s hard to remember the complete strangers that do their little part to make your life a little bit easier. It is nurses and other health care professionals job to care for you in your time of need. “Caring is an example of nurse’s hidden work that may go unrecognized by patients and their families, except when the behaviours and attitudes that constitute caring are missed.” (Robinson Wolf, Riviello Giardino, Osborne & Stahley Ambrose, 1994, p. 107). Mistakes in health care, depending on the severity, are unacceptable but nurses are human like the patients they are treating. This is what patients have to remember. It makes the biggest difference in the nurse’s career to know that they have had an impact on their patient’s life. I know that this is what I am looking forward to when I become a nurse. Remember pay tribute to your nurses.
